Carve & Print: A Block Printing Workshop at The Kimbell Cultural Event Center
- Admission: $40-65 (Varied ticket pricing)
Open Studio BCS presents Carve + Print: a two-night block printing workshop series hosted at The Kimbell in Downtown Bryan.
Block printing is one of the oldest forms of printmaking—a simple yet powerful technique used for centuries to create repeating patterns on textiles, paper, and books.
In this two-part series, guests will design and carve their own printing block, then return the following week to bring it to life through hand printing.
Night One: Carving
We’ll begin with a brief introduction to the history of block printing, including the rich tradition of Indian block-printed textiles. From there, guests will sketch a simple design and learn how to carve their own relief block using traditional printmaking tools.
Night Two: Printing
We’ll gather again the following week to print using your carved block onto your choice of substrate—a canvas tote bag or a set of greeting cards. Along the way, we’ll explore layering, pattern-building, and techniques for achieving crisp, beautiful prints.
