1. Dig Into Authentic Texas Burgers and BBQ
Find the Best Local Flavor in Bryan
Nothing says Americana quite like a classic greasy burger or slow-smoked brisket. Margie's in Historic Downtown Bryan is one of the oldest burger joints in town. Their famous Opersteny burger has been "paper-licking good" since the 1920s.
Top of the Hill is also known for their incredible burgers and Southern charm. Retha Valero has been running the restaurant since 2002, and most of the people who work there are related to her. They treat all of their customers like family at this tried-and-true family-owned favorite.
For mouthwatering brisket, don't miss What's Tha Deal BBQ. BJ Bradford started it as a food truck after a twist of fate led him to start smoking brisket. It's since expanded to a brick-and-mortar restaurant with incredible ribs, sausage, brisket, and more. 1775 Pit Barbecue is another must-try spot, but get their early—They tend to sell out fast! 2. Catch a Classic American Sports Game
From Kyle Field to the Ballpark
There's always a game going on in Bryan, no matter the season. Things kick off in the spring with Texas A&M Baseball at Olsen Field at Bluebell Park, where you can root for the home team and cheer for the Aggies.
During the summer, make your way to Travis Fields to watch the Bryan Yard Dogs play. This local team is big on family entertainment and America's favorite past time: baseball. Their games are usually on Thursdays, Fridays Saturdays, and Sundays during the summer. They even have food trucks, ice cream, and (of course) ice cold drinks.
Texas A&M Football is a can't-miss event in Aggieland that you can experience every fall, complete with all-out tailgating and traditions. We have everything you need for Gameday, including where to catch the free shuttle and where to watch the game (if you aren't heading to Kyle Field.)
In October, you can experience Texan Americana at the Brazos Valley Fair & Rodeo. Mutton-busting, barrel racing, bareback riding, live music, western wear, and a carnival fairground—our local rodeo has it all!
Round out the year with Texas A&M Basketball at Reed Arena, where every game will keep you on the edge of your seat. Gig 'Em, Ags!
Local Tip
On Aggie Gamedays in the fall, catch the free shuttle from Historic Downtown Bryan for an easy way to get to the game.
3. Explore History in The Brazos Valley
Discover Aggieland's Heritage
Almost 70 years after America was founded, The Republic of Texas Congress appointed a group of men to create a county seat for Brazos County. They established Boonville in 1841, and it became the starting point Bryan and the Brazos Valley.
At the time, there had only been 8 U.S. Presidents in office. Texas was its own nation, and everything west was Mexico. Visit Boonville Heritage Park to see how the first settlers lived through this era with curated exhibits, log cabins, and a replica of the first original courthouse. There's also a historic cemetery where many of the first Brazos County residents are buried.
Want to experience even more of Aggieland's past? Explore the Brazos Valley African American Museum and the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History.
Fun Fact: In 1871, residents of Brazos County donated 2,416 acres to establish the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (now known as Texas A&M University.)

4. Raise a Glass to Craftsmanship
Texas Wineries, Breweries, and Distilleries
Cheers to America's 250th! People have been brewing beer and distilling spirits in the U.S. since the late 1500s. What better way to celebrate our country's birthday than by raising a glass to local craftsmanship? Sip craft beer at KinderHill Brew Lab or Blackwater Draw Brewing Co., or head to Messina Hof Estate Winery for a glass of award-winning Texas wine.
Hush & Whisper Distilling Co. in Historic Downtown Bryan is a must-visit for locally-made spirits, including white whiskey, vodka, gin, and rye. They produce it all using grains from a local Brazos Valley farmer. It's truly a grain-to-glass experience! Enjoy cocktails (and mocktails) in the tasting room, or sign up for a tour of the distillery to learn about the process.

Hush & Whisper Distilling Co. has received awards from the American Distilling Institute for their vodka and gin, and Messina Hof Estate Winery is one of the most award-winning wineries in Texas.
5. Spend a Day By the Lake
Relax at Lake Bryan
Lake days are part of the American tradition, especially when paired with cooking out and play games with friends and family. Lake Bryan has everything you need for a classic day at the lake, from swimming holes to fishing holes. There are several grills available for cooking up burgers or hot dogs, along with a volleyball net and plenty of grassy areas for football or frisbee.
Better yet, you can find live country music and two-steppin' on Friday nights at Cadillac Ranch Bar and Grill on the shores of Lake Bryan. If you want to make it an overnight stay, Lake Bryan also offers camping and RV hookup sites.
