Art and Film/Film as Art at The Kimbell Cultural Event Center

Step into a world where cinema and canvas collide. The art exhibition “Art and Film/Film as Art”, opening Friday, August 28 and continuing through September at the Kimbell Cultural Event Center, brings together bold new work by artists including F. C. Zuke, Beast Syndicate, Lauren Cardenas, Joel Zika, and others, who explore the thrilling back-and-forth dialogues between iconic films and visual art. The exhibition is paired with a film series showcasing acclaimed motion pictures from around the world that, in their cinematography and aesthetic design, similarly reflect the impact of fine and illustrative art. The film selection spans from the 1940s to the 2020s and includes Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth, Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Mamma Roma, Ingmar Bergman’s Wild Strawberries, and Mark Robson’s Bedlam and others. The film series will also be accompanied by a comparative installation showing how art images and their filmic recreations in these films and others represent a conversation between different artists across centuries and media. Finally, in addition to the August 28 opening reception at the Kimbell, there will be a closing reception on September 24 as well as artist talks, scholarly lectures, and public discussions hosted by artists and scholars throughout the month.
