Join us as we explore Suminagashi, a centuries-old Japanese art of paper marbling. At its core, suminagashi is an experiment: ink meets water, and the result is always a surprise. Shapes drift, expand, collide, and transform in ways that can’t be planned in advance. This makes each print entirely unique and unrepeatable…and fun!
We’ll begin with an overview of its cultural and historical context. From there, you’ll be guided through the process of working with ink on water where you’ll learn how curiosity, attention, and gentle movement influence the final patterns.
After experimenting with marbling techniques, you will transfer your designs onto fabric and create a small coin pouch to take home. No prior art experience is necessary—just a willingness to explore and embrace the unexpected. All materials are provided, and step-by-step guidance will be offered throughout the session.
