Born of converging cultures and built on deep Texas roots, Bryan is a community filled with authentic stories, people, and places – our legends. Our legends are ever evolving while staying true to our Texas spirit.
The LaSalle Hotel
When The LaSalle hotel opened in 1929, it was the tallest building in Downtown Bryan. It was also a short walking distance from the railroad station, making it a convenient place to stay when traveling between Houston and Dallas by railcar. Throughout the years, it operated as an apartment complex and nursing home before being restored to its former glory as a luxury hotel for travelers visiting Historic Downtown Bryan.

If you're visiting and you stay in one of these rooms, you're going to get a sense of what Historic Downtown Bryan was like back in the day of trains and railcar travel. It's a glimpse into history, and it's who we are as a city and a community.Bobby GuitierrezMayor of Bryan, Texas
In the 1920s, the train stop in Bryan, Texas was a bustling place. Due to the area's agricultural significance, travelers often stopped to enjoy a cup of coffee at The LaSalle Hotel or to spend the night, as it was a well-known as a place to stay when traveling between Dallas and Houston on the railway. During the time of train travel, the LaSalle offered comfort, convenience, and a touch of luxury with fine attention to detail in every room.
As time went on, the hotel was bought and converted into a nursing home (and then an apartment complex) before closing in 1980 and remaining vacant for 17 years. It stayed empty until the late 1990s, when the City of Bryan supported a private developer in renovating the building. The LaSalle reopened in the 2000s, marking the beginning of revitalization in Historic Downtown Bryan.
In 2022, New Castle Hotels & Resorts acquired the property, began renovations, and reopened the historic hotel under the Tribute Portfolio by Marriott brand. Every floor of the hotel (including the underground speakeasy) were carefully renovated and elevated with vintage design and nods to the hotel's earliest days. The team took great care to preserve the building's history during the renovation process, and several elements remain original to the building, including the lobby floor and elevator dial.
